INTRODUCTION TO CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)

At the heart of The Business School’s philosophy is our aim to provide learning when it is needed, covering what is needed – at any time during your career.  And we therefore believe strongly in the concept of Continuing Professional Development.

‘Continuing Professional Development is the systematic maintenance and improvement of knowledge, skills and competence, and the enhancement of learning, undertaken by an individual throughout his or her working life.’

Committing to your own CPD is an investment in your own development and career progression, and our aim is to support that.  We are therefore introducing our Professional Development bundles.  These will continue to develop and expand, keeping up to date with current trends and offering you a one-stop shop for your learning across both short, ‘bite-sized’ blocks through to full qualification courses.  Each of our blocks of learning is linked to a qualification, meaning if you wish to, you can credit your block to your further learning.

 

Initial Professional Development at whatever level has a short lifespan – some estimates state for a degree this is only 4 years.  This highlights the need to maintain an active interest in keeping up to date with changing technology, legislation and operational procedures.

 

The development of a more affluent consumer society (even currently!) has also resulted in a better informed, more demanding, and more sophisticated public.  Again the skills acquired during an initial training period or during higher/further education may not equip you for this as you move through your career.

The CPD Logistics Professional bundle is aimed at those working at levels from team leader through to operational manager.

 

Although this is generally for those working in a logistics environment, those working in management in different sectors would benefit from many of the topic areas, such as Performance and Learning, Communication and People, Change and Communication and Financial Reporting.

 

Our CPD Logistics Professional options consists of 16 blocks. These sit under the following 4 areas - Management, Working with People, Leadership and Management, and Understanding Finance Management. The blocks within each section are shown below.
